Douglas C. Vaughan

Born in 1983 in the small farm town of Fairbury, Illinois, and raised in Northwest Indiana, I grew up like a typical Midwest kid—riding bikes with friends, exploring until the streetlights came on, and never really knowing where the next adventure would take us.

That love for adventure never left me.

In 2004, I joined the United States Army as an Infantryman. Over the next 20 years, I served across the United States and overseas, including three deployments to Iraq totaling 38 months and a deployment to Africa. On February 29, 2024—yes, Leap Day—I retired after 20 years of honorable service.

Along the way, I married my best friend and soulmate, Brittany, in December 2005. More than 20 years later, we're still exploring together, now with our two sons, Carter and Chase. Whether it's hiking a new trail, visiting a national park, or simply getting away from everyday life, some of our best memories have come from going somewhere we've never been before.

After retiring from the Army and returning home to Indiana, I wanted my next chapter to be built around something I truly enjoy.

That's how Terrain Association was born.

Terrain Association is for people who believe life is meant to be experienced—not just watched from the sidelines. It's for the travelers, hikers, explorers, veterans, families, and everyday adventurers willing to take the long way, stop at the overlook, and make a few memories along the way.

As a retired Army veteran, I'm proud that Terrain Association is a 100% veteran-owned company built around family, adventure, freedom, and making the most of the time we're given.

I spent 20 years serving something bigger than myself. Now I'm building something of my own—and I'm excited to see where this trail leads.
